Tauranga Youth Development Team are running lunchtime pop up events at High Schools and alternative education providers throughout the Bay of Plenty for the 5th year running. We bring games, activities, art, live music, dance, giveaways and food to work alongside and help champion the existing organisations that work with our young people. We are engaging with our communities and celebrating young people of all areas, to inform them of the support, opportunities and people on their own back doors that are there to help them. We are really excited to have Opotiki College on our schedule for the first time, and we look forward to connecting with their local agencies to support this event.
This year we have the Athlete Factory providing challenging physical workshops, Urban Dance and Josh Pow Performing, and Good Neighbour are helping to resource us with rescued food.
During the month of May every year New Zealand celebrates Youth Week. This is a nationwide festival of events organised by young New Zealanders to celebrate talents, passion and success of local young people. Youth week is about inspiring people to value, support and affirm the diversity of young people in our society. This year the theme is “We are more than what you see” and this is the basis for our design competition. We are inviting young people to submit their designs for a silicone phone wallet with the winner will be manufactured and available through TYDT. Information on this and registration forms are available by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
We are supported by many organisations this year such as Blue Chilli, Te Aranui Youth Trust, Family Link, Corrections Dept, Bluelight, Pirirakau Hauora, Waikato University, Western Bay Council and Te Tomika Trust to make these events happen. We value the time, expertise and resources given by these organisations during these events.
